Defaulting To List View?

I'm running OS 10.3.9. My question simply, how do I make the Finder default to list view? If I set list view for a certain directory, it will stay that way, but they default to icon view. How can I change this?

There isn't a system wide setting for list view.
You can do it for certain directories as you have noticed and mentioned already, but no global setting.

This drove me bananas

So here is a response I posted when I finally found the solution. This is how it was on 10.4, but you may get the same esired behavior.

I couldn't believe how "undocumented" and hard this was to figure out.

The desired view will "take" if

- you are currently on an Administrator account, and
- you change the view (via the view selectors) while the Home account/folder is selected.
