Soon i should be getting my shiney Olympus E-500 and it can take XD or CF..

Ive tryed searching for good reviews on why one is better than the other and cannot find any.

What is the difference apart from the size of them?
Would one be better than the other depending on what i did?

Is there a guide for how fast the card can be written and read? in your opinion what would you preffer?

My friend who takes pictures as a serious hobbie said that CF suites him better because its a tuffer card and less prone to getting broke and losing data

Card speeds are measured like CD-R speeds (20x 40x 80x etc). You only notice the speed when you are using burst modes.

The only reason CF might be tougher is because it is thicker and bigger. xD isn't prone to breaking or losing data

Yeah, I have XD cards for my Olympus and I have never had any issues with them. The difference, if any, between the two types of cards would be negligible.

Look for RIData brand cards, great cards and 1/3 the price of Sandisk or Lexar. I wish I had found them earlier and saved money wasted on the other brands.
