Installing Mac OS 4 Tiger onto an Old iMac

One simple quick question - is it possible to install Mac OS 10.4 Tiger onto an older (tray loading) iMac G3? I have Tiger in CD form so the fact that I don't have a dvd drive wouldn't be a problem....

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem.

Does your iMac have a firewire port? If it does, then your machine is supported, if not you might be able to use Xpostfacto to install it onto an unsupported machine.

In any case, I'd make sure you have at least 256 or better 512MB of RAM in there for decent performance, otherwise I'd consider sticking with Panther.

Tiger install in old imac....

I did that with an old CD tray imac and the motherboard self destructed. Coincidence? Who knows?
I use the HD now as an external HD and the imac case made into a good CD storage.

That is a really cool Idea.. you could make a few of those with cases found on the internet and sell them on ebay, make a little profit..

I just hated to scrap that cool housing, this was one of the first imacs sold the first day they were available and I learned on it, so now it's still in my house and still useful.
