Mac newbie. :dummy: Just booted up my brand new Macbook (512K, 60gig HD) fresh out of the box. Connected immediately to home network. Updates downloaded and executed. Beautiful machine. Reports less than 38 Gigs of HD space remaining. Does the baseline load really consume more than 1/3 of the HD?

In the mac store and at home on my iMac
I had the same thing.

Look at this: iLife 06 (preinstalled) = 10GB
iWork (preinstalled, trial, but all files still installed) =3GB
Office test drive = aprox 500 mb

Tiger
Every thing else

I wouldn't be complaning, tiger is a great os and 22Gb of space is a little, windows only takes up like 5, but tiger is that much better.

A basic, bootable OSX load will only take 2Gb. A full install, out of the box, can take upwards of 25Gb, so you are ok.
