Just have to tell everyone my story.

Firstly, in July I sent my macbook back for discolouration, which I wasnt to happy about anyway. Sent it away and 2 days later it came back fixed.

Now, again, the new plastic has gone discoloured. So, again, went through same proceedure to send it back. This time, was with them for a couple of days. Got it back this morning with a note saying it hasnt been fixed with no explanation, just a small letter saying no repair has been made.

So, phoned apple, and was told that I have accidental damage on the machine that I didnt tell them about, so it couldnt be fixed as it had voided warrenty! Apparently, there is a "Mark" on the corner of the laptop that has voided the warrenty.

Ladies and Gentlmen, the huge massive dent that apparently stopped a totally unrelated incident which has nothing to do with the mark what so ever:

Its different if I wanted that peice of plastic repaired, but its not, and it just makes me angry that they are trying to get out of fixing it for a silly reason.

They have told me to take it to an apple authorised service centre in my area and see if he would do it for me under warrenty. Ive acually taken it to him before (a day or 2 before I sent it off, again, had the dent in it) and he said he would happily fix it, but he may not be able to until september time.

So, ive lost a couple of days work, my main computer gone for a week, only to have to sent back saying its my fault!? Sorry Ive really had enough with apple now. Basically what they are saying is if you get any sort of mark on it, it voids the warrenty? Thats like buying a brand new car, getting a small dent in the door, and the brakes fail, and then they refuse to fix it under warrenty because there is a small dent in the metal.

Ridiculous.

sorry to hear about your experience....sounds like a terrible catch-22 situation....

Have Apple documented your warranty as being voided but are overlooking this one time?

Im not sure, I just rang them up and the guy said that its because of the small dent.

He said he would go and ask the specialist who delt with it, so he went away for 5 minutes, came back and said that he couldnt organise a re-repair on it because its likely that it will just be sent back again. I will take it into the shop today where he told me to take it and see if he would repair it. Im sure he will, hes a really nice guy. He said he repair it before I sent it off to apple anyway, so I dont see why he couldnt.

Does anyone have any advice for me? Maybe if this guy says he cant do it, I should ring up and ask to speak to a supervisor about it, as it really is so silly. Its different if it could have been a problem that the dent or even impact could have caused, but its nothing to do with that, its just the plastic.

Always use authorized service centers over sending it back to the manufacture. Authorized service centers bill Apple by the hour so they'll spend as much time as they have to in order to ensure your computer is back at its peak.
The manufacture on the other hand wants to do as little as possable since it cost them money. I allways take my computers into IKON they almost allways fix them in less than 72 hours and do a great job.

Yeah I always take it to Data Quest here in switzerland, never to apple. You could try that, and if it fails, use sandpaper and make the dent inconspicious.

I had the same issue with my powerbook, they are charging me 1200 to fix the all the aspects of the computer because it can not be repaired because of a dent in the corner. I only wanted the hard drive to be replaced because that is what was broken.. They decided that there was a memory problem (which i knew about but didn't want to have replaced because it was the logic board and i could live with out it) they also wanted to replace the lcd because of white marks on it, and they wanted to replace the super drive, all i wanted was the hard drive.

Take your car in to get the oil changed and they tell you that you need new tires, new brake pads, the door has a dent in it, the radio is shot, just about anything. If they can get you to pay them to fix it, they did their job.

I'd take this to brass if I were you. 10 to 1 odds if you had asked for the dent to be repaired they would have told you no because its cosmetic and not covered under the warranty.
