battery recall

i just saw on cnn that the sony batteries made for dell are the same batteries supplied to apple for certain laptops and they will be recalled.

anyone else heard anything? anybody know which models use these sony batteries?

i just got off the phone with apple support. My powerbook 12" was one of the models effected. They are recalling 1.8 million batteirs on ibooks and powerbooks.

Affected models include:

• 12-inch iBook G4, Model #A1061, Serial #s: 3K429 through 3K611, 6C510 through 6C626
• 12-inch PowerBook G4, Model #A1079, Serial #s: ZZ411 through ZZ427, 3K428 through 3K611, 3K425 through 3K601
• 15-inch PowerBook G4, Model #A1078 and A1148, Serial Numbers: 6N530 through 6N551, 6N601

The only problem is that to order these batteries you need to head to the website, but the website has encountered so many people that it has crashed. With mine being within the first year warrenty they were able to process it as a in warrenty issue, instead of a recall.

Nope not yet

I was surprised, my replacement came last week. Works great. I sent them back the old battery yesterday in the box they provided. The new one is getting 5 hours on my ibook G4 if I keep brightness down and don't play a DVD. Very pleased.

I got my replacement for my PowerBook G4 last week also. It seems to be functioning great and the PowerBook even seems slightly cooler to me. Could just be me though. I keep forgetting to send them the old battery back--will have to do that tomorrow for sure.

i got my replacement - lol - actually i knew about the recall about 1.5 yr ago but i was too lazy to sign up for a replacement battery.. now i'm just too lazy to send back my old battery ><

Yeah I haven't recieved mine yet. Been over a month since my confirmation email. Gonna go check on that right now.

still haven't got mine yet....

So this is working very well for all you guys, getting new batteries with full compacity, lol. My powerbook battery was not recalled, although, it doesn't work any more so it doesn't really matter to me.

still no replacement battery.... it's been almost 2 full months - should i be concerned?
