Problems with VLC

what ever video i try to play there are diagonal green lines going across the screen the video is distored along those lines sorry im new too the program picked it up after divx wouldnt play any sound on my videos. thanks in advance

If you have an Intel Mac, be sure to pick up the right package:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html

See the second list "Intel Package". If you DID download that, then try this instead:

http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/macosx-intel/trunk-intel-20060820-0056.dmg

That's the latest nightly build. If that doesn't help check the VLC forums. There are some topics there on this.

i downloaded the intel package the first time....the second linked worked thou thanks alot it was really frustrating

Hey, just read your thread. I DL that second link, the video works now but my sound doesnt, and it closes after a few secs of using it.... any other tips.

Being a nightly build, the second link is not necessarily stable. Personally, I advocate use of MPlayer over VLC, downloadable here:

Be sure to DL the OS X version. Of course, if you want to build it from source yourself and acquire better performance on H264 MKVs with softsub tracks, you should consult DarwinPorts at:

http://darwinports.opendarwin.org/

Also, it might not be VLC itself; you should try reairing sik permissions and throwing out your VLC preferences before assuming it's the app's fault.

i'm thinking you d/l'd the wrong version. mine works fine on my intel mac. sometimes i have to force quit, but its open source, so its gonna potty on the carpet once and awhile.
