No Sounds!!!!

MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HD
I noticed that there was a red light coming out of my macbooks headphone jack. I do plug into external speakers, could that have something to do with it? someone please help!

The red light is just from the optical audio out. Thats a completely normal light

oh yea i frgt to say theres no sound being played out of the the macbook speakers. and when i go to the volume control to turn up the volume, u cant modify it

its says the sond device has no output controls in the sound preferences. this is my first mac(got it wedsnesday) so i dont have a cluse as to how to fix it. Please help

OK, now that is a problem. You probably need to get a replacement for that
