Gimp!!!! Aaahh!!!

can some one please walk me through the proccess of installing gimp on a new macbook (OS X 10.4.6). what i ve tried is i ve downloaded and installed gimp and frick. the application shows up in the dock but when clicked, it says x11 needs to be installed. i went to downloads.com to find this, but it will not install b/c its only for os x 10.3 - 10.9. can someone help me out? i want to make an animated GIF so if u have advice on that, that'd be MUCH appreciated too.
