Does anyone know if apple US will ship to UK

Hey Guys,

The £ exchange rate is VERY strong at the moment and a black macbook from the US works out to be £752 (in the UK its over £1000).

Does anyone know if I order from apple US they will delivery to the UK at extra cost of course?

that is a big negative.

It would go through customs and stuff to. you'd end up paying more.

Do they not allow you to send it as a gift with gift wrapping etc?

You can't ship it out of the US with Apple, they redirect you to their online store that will ship to you. Even if they did you would have to pay the Duty on it which would make the price equal, if not more than the UK price

Even if you got a buddy in the US to order it and then ship it as a gift it may well get stopped (ive heard loads of this happening latley) my old laptop got through as an ''amp being returned for repair'' lol but I dont think I would trust it these days, if its gets stoped the charges will be cheaper than getting it here in the UK

I have the same problem with the Swiss Apple Store. A Dollar equals 1.2 Francs, yet apple magically assumes rates of 1.5 . This is dramatic.

yogi do you have sales tax or have to pay VAT on top?

7.6 % VAT on all luxury items (electronics is in that category).

Yea we have higher sales taxes then your VAT

Just checked on my MacBook its 1517.91 after tax in the US
After VAT it is 1599 for you. So 75 more dollars approximately

Cheapest MacBook base config:

Price in U.S. without Tax: $1005
Price in Switzerland without Tax: CHF 1459
U.S. Price according to current Rate: CHF 1209

I lose: CHF 250

So if the import doesn't exceed that, I could buy from any U.S. retailer.

Now the swiss post charges as follows: If I receive a package from a private company like TNT or Ups, they charge me their administrations fees of about CHF 60 . If the tax value is higher than CHF 5, I need to pay tax, too. That is, her CHF 92 .
I also have to pay the sales tax in the state of purchase, assuming about 8.6%, that gives me a final price for the macbook of:

1404.59

I save 175 Bucks. Not really worth the hassle, somehow. It's a border case.

And even if you could get them to ship it over, the shipping costs would probably make it more expensive
