hi,
i have downloaded some music from the net and although they appear in itunes, and cant find where they are actually located..
When i control i on the actual file - it tells me that they are on my laptop under volumes:--> external drive.
I have no idea where this volumes drive is!
They should be downloading to my external hard drive but are clearly not there.
When a do a control F (find) it cannot locate the files (although they appear and play in iTunes.

would appreciate any help.

To get the volumes folder hit command + shift + g and type in Volumes. When you click Go it should take you to the volumes folder

As recommended earlier by Aptmunich..............
Use a program like Disk inventory x or Whatsize to help you locate the file... Those apps can also show hidden files and will sort them by size for you.

I hope this works for you, it did for me when trying to find a hidden vob file.

Will the files in question actually play in iTunes?

Volumes just refers to the fact that the files are on a seperate physical volume or partition.

Select the file and hit apple+r to show it in the finder. Command click the top of the finder window (where it displays the folders name) to see where that folder is located.

Here's a song that's saved externally:
