Mac OS X Terminal Program-Insert character

I'm not completely sure what you're asking for, but at the terminal command line you can use the left/right cursor keys to move back and forth in the command you are currently looking at to modify it.

Also SHIFT+HOME is nice for getting to the start of the current typed command if you forgot to add a flag or "./" or some such for a shell script.

Well, on the PC keyboard, you have an insert key, which allows you
to insert characters inbetween text.

How can I do this on the mac?

Inserting is the default behavior. Cursor back and forth and just start typing. It inserts by default.
