I am looking @ 2 laptops
they are the same in everything except

A has
Intel Core Duo 1.83GHz
256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 TurboCache
8X CD/DVD Burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R
Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™ HD Software Edition
2Yr Ltd Warranty, 2Yr At-Home Service, and 2Yr HW Warranty
No Printer

B has
Intel Core Duo 2.0GHz
128MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400
LightScribe Super Multi 8X DVD+/-RW w/Double Layer
Intergrated Intel Sound
1 Yr Limited Warrenty
Free All in One After Rebate

They are the same in everything else, and they are the same price also.
Which is the better one.

I would go with A. It's a pretty good set up. But, I would switch the processors (if you can upgrade it.)

If anything, I'd personally go with A.

Seems you get more coverage with A - it depends on what you want to do with your macbook - do you need a printer? Are you doing anything that requires more graphics-intensive apps?

They both sound okay to me. However, I would personally go with a Mac instead :black:

Just curious.... have you given up on getting a Mac? I guess if a Windows PC laptop is what you prefer, that is good... get what works best for your needs.
Just seemed like you were pretty stoked about getting a Mac. I know you said that you had waited and waited and waited in the past... are you waiting for something else to update now?

The Mac is overprices

I dont want a 13.3" screen, so the Macbook is out

I need 1gb or ram, dedicated graphics, dual core cpu, and dual layer DVD burner
the MBP can do all of this, starting at $2000
Where the dell and HP can do it for less than 1500

Ill be using it for a variety of things. I consume the majority of my media from computers. So heavey Audio/Video downloading and viewing. I also do a lot of office work. I dabble in media creation (iLife would be great), and am trying to advance my skills with the different programs. I am learning to develop with a few languages. Im also a casual gamer. But most importantly is heavey duty usage of the web.
I also need something that will last for a while, and will be able to handle the next OS (be it Vista or Leopard).

All of the computers will be perfect, but i really want a Mac for its special apps, better OS, and ability to run windos and linux. But i dont want to pay the apple tax. What should i do. Is there somewhere else i should look for a mac, eBay prehaps?

Whilst it may look as though you're paying more for Apple's computer, I think you should look at it differently:

There may be cheaper hardware out there, but whatever laptop you get, you'll most likely be more productive with an apple laptop due to the benefits of OS X and all the great applications available for it. (And I'm not just talking iLife here...)

get the refurbished MBP. It's a better computer than either of the two PC's, and only a little more expensive. You won't regret getting it.

Turns out that they only had 1 model left in the refresh models in the apple store.
I need a computer, so i had to make a desicion.
This is a tough one

I remain on the dark side

I ordered

HP Pavilion dv6000z Notebook
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 1.8 GHz
15.4" BrightView Widescreen
256MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7200
1GB DDR2 SDRAM - Memory
100GB 5400RPM SATA - Hard Drive

Microphone
Webcam

HP Deskjet All in One Printer

SubTotal $1,507.98
NY Tax $126.29
Shipping $0.00
Rebates -$129.99

Grand Total $1,504.28

-----

The closet Mac competitor was a MBP
Same CPU Speed but Intel
512mb
80GB
128 ATI
No highcapacity battery
No Double Layer
Everything else similar

$1,682.60

Thats refurbished and with Tax

All it had was Industrial Design, and OS X
How i wish Apple would license OS X to other vendors, one can dream cant they?

I love OS X, i know im probably gonna have buyers remorse after WWDC 2006
(thank god for the money back in 30 days deal)
But im pretty sure this system is well worth the money, and OS X isnt worth subpar hardware.

Apple makes beautiful machines, with interesting little innovations that make them seem nicer. But the fact is that they are the same on the inside as any other computer. And the only reason they move machines is because of OS X. If Apple ran windows only, they would fail misrably.
I am a strong advocate of Apple going into just
highend machines (mac pro, mbp)
Innovative machines (mac mini, imac)
and look into making a new type of laptop that is UMPC like
And then license OS X to 3rd party vendors under strict spec requirments, trust me apple will be making $$$.
People say apple is a hardware company first, i strongly disagree. They are only viable as a hardware company because of the software. People buy Macs for the OS first, then for the industrial design and top notch quality and suppot. So why force customers to deal with a middle man. License OS X.

The MacBook is NOT overpriced. I hate it when people say Macs are overpriced. Macs are way more quality machines than PC brands. They put quality hardware into their computer. Plus if you compare Macs to PCs, PCs are initially cheap now because Vista is coming out. Macs just released the Macbook, the only major update is when Leopard comes out.

Most of theese major computer brands like HP they don't have a constant stock of the same hardware so each of them are the same. Besides Alienware, they on a normal bases have the same internal hardware. I had one and I compared it to my friends they're basically the same. But they're overpriced.

Im not sure what the differnece between unregister, and register. and buffered, and unbufferd, are. And whats ecc

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820218096

if you know of anything better please drop a link

thank you,
i understand now, that it isnt the hardware, its the software that makes the machine.

Hello,
I returned my PC, and i am currently writing this post on a

MacBook - White
2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo
1 GB Ram
80 GB HD

I am seriously amazed with the elegance and the attention to detail that Apple gives its products. I have been waiting for 3 years to buy a mac, and i am happy to say that it was woth it.

I have only 2 problems with it.

The F12 key seems a little loose
The max volume is less than i would like

but all in all,
this notebook is in'!

i am envious of u. gonna be a junior in highschool next week and ive wanted a mac since late 6th grade. i dont kno why i originally wanted one, but i remember searching ebay for the old clamshell ibook. i came close to getting one but was eventually shutdown by my parents. when i rekindled my feelings about macs, i understood the advantages of the mace. im now close to having enough money for a macbook which i am crazy excited about getting, i just need my 360 to sell on ebay (if someone wants to buy it, the seller id is atc1050 lol, help me out!!!). did u end up getting the alien ram or did u just have apple upgrade it? i personally am going to order both a 120gb HDD and 2 1gb sticks of gskill from newegg. i ve been reading ALOT on macbooks in the past 3.5 months, and, b/c of the yellowing that can occur on the wrist rest, i suggest getting an invisible shield from shieldzone.com. dang, i wish i were u right now!!!
