I'm running out of room on my Mac Mini's HD so I was wondering if I could hook up an external 250 GB HD to it. I dont see why it wouldn't be compatible but I dont wanna waste 130 bucks.

Yeah I already know about that and it dont sound bad but if I can get a 250 GB HD cheaper than that I want to do that.

if you want to go cheap you can build your own enclosure with a firewire/usb 2.0 hard drive :) LaCie also makes a great external with a triple interface

The miniStack is reputed to be somewhat noisy when its fan is running - given how quiet the mini itself is, you might want to look elsewhere. I hear that the LaCie equivalent (same form factor) is fan less. Alternately, Seagate has several fanless drives. If noise is an issue for you, stay away from the miniStack.

I purchased the following acomdata drive (http://www.acomdata.com/hdp/fs.html) and have found that it works quite well. It is fanless and extremely quite, although it does tend to get a bit hot. I haven't tried the push-button back-up software yet, so I cannot speak to that, but I do store all of my songs, movies, and pictures on the drive.

Yeah, pretty much any harddrive with USB 2.0 should work. I've heard of one or two issues with certain firewire enclosures, but my external drive with both interfaces works perfectly.

I got my replacement mini...1 1/2 weeks is a long time....anyway...

I bought a CompUSA brand firewire/USB enclosure and put my HD from my older windows desktop in it...works fine with superdupe...haven't tried booting from it yet...but so far no issues. FYI - the disk is a Maxtor 120 GB PATA (don't remember the model number).

Thanks for the input. I'll get one eventually.
