Your system is unable to find a boot image. The world map is the image used when it will boot off a network drive. My guess it that your system boot image is corrupted. Boot your system from your install media and see if you see your system disk. If you can, then you may need to do an archive and install.

Before you do all that, make sure that under System preferences-> Startup Disk, 'Network volume' is not selected.

It sounds like that your system is looking for a network drive to boot from initially, so turn on your mac and hold down the option/alt key.

Select your internal harddrive and try to boot off that.

Then check the Startup Disk preferences and make sure your internal drive is selected.

if you have to re-install your OS from your media that came with your computer, hold down the "C" key after turning on your imac. This will boot off the CD and you can reinstall files, or run disk utility to make sure your hard drive is still good.
