Emptying my trash

I have a legal folder in my trash that won't let me delete it. Everytime I click empty trash it does nothing and the legal folder is in there. How can I nuke this annoying little problem?

Does it give a warning or notification, or just doesn't delete?

Have you rebooted your computer? It may be in use somehow, and you may need to reboot to stop it from being used.

Another thing that may work is holding Option while selecting 'Empty Trash.'

FINDER > SECURE EMPTY TRASH

That will usually do the trick.

Okay, I did that and it said that the file is in use but I've rebooted several times. How do I find out what program is using this stupid legal folder? It's so frusterating how something so simple is so hard to do.

If it is still happening after a reboot than it is likely that something that is in the login folder is causing it. Look in System Prefs/Accounts and see what is in your login items folder that could be causing this

Pull the folder out of the trash, restart, put it back in and try to empty it.

Also, when you do a "Get Info" (Click the file and press the Apple key + I key) does it show the file is locked?

The only other thing I can think of is to log in as root and try it from there...

There is a file inside of the legal folder called Tieng Viet.html and I try to remove it from the folder and it won't let me no matter what. This is very odd. I can't delete the legal folder or this .html folder.

Go into Terminal.
Type this:

sudo rm -rf

That should clear up your Trash issue.
:black:

EDIT: On a side note, make sure that you indeed want to empty everything in your Trash before you do that. It will/should wipe out everything in there.

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System
Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things:

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.
