Powermac won't read blank dvd...suggestions?

I have a powermac G4 with the following original cd/dvd drive:
Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-103 media
I am late in getting more diligent with my backing up, but I had just purchased some blank dvd's (OfficeMax dvd+r 16x) and was hoping to get going and my computer won't read the blank dvds. I put them in and a few moments later, it spits it back out. However, it still acknowledges blank cd's fine as well as dvd movies.
Does anyone have good suggestions on what might be my problem or what I should do? Any help would be great!
Thanks.

it just might be that batch of dvds, try another brand and see if it still doesnt work. your dvd player might also require a firmware upgrade to burn 16x dvds, a lot of them do... im not sure where you would go about getting it, though

This was a great idea...so simple. I tried another blank dvd I had and it seems to be working. Do you think this is a case of cheap officemax type dvd's and/or do you have recommendations for better dvd's to use?
Thanks so much for your help!

i just know that when i used to buy 16x dvds, it would have a warning on the box saying to download the latest firmware. in general, i try to buy name brand dvds, like memorex or fuji, i havent had any problems ever with those. glad to hear your dvd burner wasnt broken!

I also try to stay with name brands. I don't like memorex, so I use one of the following:

Verbatim
TDK
Fuji

i dont have no mac's
regarding dvd's and cd's: you get what you pay for. i always use namebrand, i prefer memorex although many dont like them but they work in all my dvd players and out of about 300 burnt dvd's i have about six beer coasters

Thanks guys for the advice. This is really good to know not to go cheap on. As well, it is really a relief to know that I will not be needing to replace my burner!
