Word Processor

I got my MBP and I have the "trial" version of Windows word, ect...How can I make those permanent? I dont really feel like paying 200 bucks for it..is there another way to do it for free?

no.... other than payement it would be illegal and we dont do that stuff on this forum

Um, no. You need to pay for it. If you're a student you can get the Student/Teacher edition which is less or sometimes college bookstores will sell it for as little as $20.

I know you weren't asking how to do it illegally since that's against the Forum Rules.

Depending on what you plan on using it for, consider the following:

Abiword - free open source program that mimics MS-Word. Reads and Writes .doc format (many others too!), an excellent word processor.

Gnumeric - free open source program that nearly completely emulates Excel - about 99% the same. Requires Apple's X11 to be installed too, but that comes for free on your install disks. Reads and writes .xls format (many others too).

If you are planning on using Powerpoint, I can't help there - OpenOffice is your best bet.

I believe that all of the above, like MS Office itself, are all PPC only at this point - no Universal binaries yet.

I suggest Apple's Pages, which is much cheaper than Word, but very powerful.

Abiword.app is the native Mac OS X port of the EXCELLENT Abiword open source word processor. It reads and writes MS-Word format. An excellent, excellent and FREE replacement for MS-Word.

i would reccomend open office. i dont use it but i have in the past. i dont know if it is universal yet.

The latest OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 release candidates are universal binaries.
