Help, only boots sometimes

On my ibook g3, i have 10.3.9 or w/e it is, and reciently i was downloading music, then i restarted because the laptop was going slow, so then all i get is a flashing globe in a box when i start up, then if i unplug my mouse and internet, it starts up with the flashing globe then a few seconds later a foler with a question mark flashing but it alternates from a question mark to a mac face each blink in the folder. Any ideas what the **** i may have done it is pissing me off takes like 30 mins to try to get it to boot??? neye:

hold down option during boot. this will list bootable volumes. if your HD isn't there reboot and hold down cmd + S. when you get to a promt type,...

/sbin/fsck -fy

then return. when finished reboot. repeat these steps until it doesn't say that it modified the file system.
