macbook pro: 2.16 ghz intel core duo, 256 mb video ram, 2 gb ram, 120 gb hd.
Hello,

I read in one of the other threads that in order to run dual channel both sticks of ram must be the same size like two 512, or two 1 gb. I was just wondering if they have to be the same brand?? If they don't I am planning on just getting a macbook pro with 1 gb of ram and then putting another one gig stick in it.

Thanks,
Scatman

In my experince with Custom Build PC's. For Dual Channel to work, you need to have 2 of the same Size chips.
Brands dont matter all the much, unless your into overclocking and that whole mess, then matched chips are better... blah blah blah...

brands do matter, somtimes... when i had a powermac g5, i had two different brands of ram, but the same size, and my computer wouldn't recognize them

Thats odd. I know they will have problems if they speeds is different. PC3200 and PC2700 (for example)

Mac Book Pro, 1.83 GHz, 1.5 gigs RAM, 80 GB, AND NO HEAT ISSUES!!
I run a 1 gig chip and a 512 meg chip, and it runs faster than a buddies twin 512 setup. still, i'm planning to upgrade to 2 gigs eventually
