Fonts in AppleWorks and TextEdit

Your Mac's Specs
G5 1.8GHz, 3GB RAM; Macbook Air
These are both the exact same text, the exact same font, the exact same size, and neither is bold or italic. The left is in AppleWorks, and the right is in TextEdit. Why do they look so different? How can I make the font in AppleWorks look like it does in TextEdit?

AppleWorks is so old, it does not support the sub-pixel rendering of OS X. Text in AppleWorks is rendered using the old cocoa API, and only supports a lousy form of sub-pixel rendering. The only way to fix this would be to re-write AppleWorks to use the newer OS X text-displaying API, but Apple doesn't seem to be interested.

If you were to print them both out, the printouts would look identical.
