recessed battery - normal?

The battery actually sits a tiny bit underneath the rest of the notebook surface. I had removed the battery to install memory and replace the hard drive, but the locking mechanism for the battery seems to pull it too far into the chassis.

It's not a big deal, but this was an expensive (black) macbook, and it hurts the elegant appearance of the machine.

Should I call apple?

Doesn't removing/replacing the hard drive void the warranty? And if so, what could they do for you if you voided it?

My battery sits like that in my 15"...as it did on my 12" Powerbook...

If it works, I wouldn't worry about it.

Actually yeah I would call them and talk to them.. if there is an edge around where the battery is then there is a greater chance that edge catches something and chips or other problems.

if thats the case why do they offer instructions on their website for removing the ram?

The hard drive is actually right there and even esaier to remove without any more tools then what is need to remove the ram.

I dont see how removing the hard drive would be related to the battery not sitting right anyway..

Apple provides instructions for replacing RAM and removing the battery, but I haven't seen any documentation for replacing the hard drive in your MacBook. I don't know the dimensions of the stock hard drives but cramming a different size/make hard drive could interfere with the battery fitting properly.

Regardless, my point was voiding the warranty and getting help from Apple, not whether the replacements affected how it fit back together. I'd like to know what Apple had to say about it, now that the hard drive is much easier to replace. If you get a hold of Apple let us know :)
