i have a usb port on this G3 desktop. I thought the drivers would work for this Pro optical mouse. Do i need some special driver for it?

You shouldn't need any drivers. Have you tried the mouse on another computer? Have you tried using something else in the USB port?
What OS are you running on the G3? Is this a beige or B&W G3?

A little more info would help us to help you better. :black:

have you tried bypassing the extension cable? sometimes they cause problems on low power devices.
