I just bought a Mac G5 with 512MB memory in two 256MB DIMM's. I also purchased two 1GB DIMM's from Crucial memory that I plan to install.
I heard its best to keep all the memory the same size for all of the slots. Therefore, I should remove the two 256's and just use the two 1GB DIMM's. If I leave the memory that came with and add the new memory, it may not run optimally.
Has anyone done this (adding new different sized memory while maintaining the original memory) while using pro audio applications such as logic and had any problems? Ideally I would like to keep all the memory so that I have 2.5GB opposed to 2GB and wasting the memory that came with the G5.
Thank you
