Internet printer through https

Hi,

I'm trying to configure an internet printer in my mac. The protocol of the address I have been given is https. The printer wizard asks for a host, not a full url. Is this kind of printer supported by os x?
Any workarounds or instructions?

Thanks.

Thanks! After following the instructions, the printer appears to be configured. When I try to print I receive this message: "Unable to connect to IPP host: Bad file descriptor".

https://printers.feweb.vu.nl/printers/printer01/.printer

Hmm ... I would try knocking '/.printer' off the end and see. The format for IPP URIs is generally:

http://host/printers/queue

so the .printer might be causing an issue.

If it's not that, I would recommend checking at the server end in the logs to see if anything shows up.

Same problem here: Unable to connect to IPP host: Bad file descriptor

I also followed the tutorial from al&d (http://www.ald.utoronto.ca/computing/network/ipp_osx.html) in order to connect from Mac OS X 10.4.7 to an https ipp printer (I think it's on a Windows Server 2003).

When trying to print, I get the error:
"Unable to connect to IPP host: Bad file descriptor"

I tried to remove the .printer extension, but again the same error. I also tried to get rid of the credentials (user/password) from the URI because they contain non-alpha numerical characters. But then again: "Unable to connect to IPP host: Bad file descriptor"

Who knows an answer? Thanks a lot.
