Well I got my MacBook. Now my brother is looking at getting one also and doesnt know what one to get. He doesnt do any DVD burning and if he does he has a DVD burner on his Desktop PC. He doesnt do any video editing or anything like that. Bacisly surfing the web, IM and e-mail. So I dont think he needs a 2.0 with the superdrive. But I am looking for everyones input on this.

There is almost 0 speed difference between 2.0 and 1.8. If he doesn't need the superdrive go with the 1.8 and spend the extra money on RAM.

I think that is the best thing for him to do. He doesnt need the superdrive and he could get a base model and upgrade the ram on it

Another thing to think about is future-proofing it. You may want to sell it someday; the more features, the better. If he's a student, he can get the white 2ghz MacBook with a DVD burner for a slight discount. Just something to think about.

So I am thinking that since there is almost no difference between the 1.8 and the 2.0 for what he is going to use it for, I am thinking that he should just get the 1.8ghz and spend the extra money on Ram and a HDD. He is not going to be needing the superdrive since he has one on his pc. What do you guys think?

Get a 1.8GHZ with upgraded RAM. Then buy a new 7200RPM HD. 7200RPM drive is what alot of people want, though Apple doesn't offer them, just a 5400. Harddrive in a new MacBook isn't all that hard, much much easier than an iBook.

I went for the 1,83 and will splurge on 2Gigs of RAM instead. I already have an external 16x DL DVD burner...

Well my brother has a superdrive on his pc so he doesnt need it on his Macbook. He is going today to get his macbook 1.83 and going to spend the extra on 2gb ram and a 100gb 7200rpm hdd

Having the ability to burn DVDs on my laptop is totally cool! Having that flexibility wherever I am is priceless
