Which HP Driver? What printer? What Mac and what OS? We need more info so that we can try to help you.

Are you using a locally connected (i.e. USB) printer or a shared printer over a network? If you are using a shared printer, either using IPP or Windows shares, you will need these drivers: http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/hpijs/

The built in and, I think, HP provided drivers do not support remote printers for some reason.

If you are using a locally connected printer that has multi-function (e.g. scanner) then you probably need to set it up in the HP printer configuration utility provided with the driver.
