Sound levels?

Hey, I have the volume level all the way up, but it just feels like it's still very low. Is it just crappy built in speakers? Do I have to buy new speakers? I like high volume and it's rather bothersome.

edit: I actually hooked it up to another set of speakers and it was realllllly low even at fully turned knob on my speaker. I've tried pressing the volume thing all the way up, but that's not changing the volume level as it only has so many stages.

Am I missing something here? (I'm new to macs)

Thanks,
DFischer

Have you tried opening System Preferences, selecting Sound, then Output to see what device is selected?
