This info may be available somewhere spread around, but FWIW, after wondering myself why it's so hard to find DVD's that will actually burn at anything faster than 2X, I have found that:
TDK DVD-R 8X actually burn at 8X. The particular spindle of 25 I bought is labeled as "Video" (for use in home DVD Video Recorders), but they were about $13.99 for 25 at Target. The TDK Item # is: DVD-R47VDCB25. Far cheaper than the $34 that Apple wants for a spindle of 25 DVD-R's. I imagine the "standard" TDK DVD-R 8X blanks would work just as well (what could the difference be?), but thought I'd pass this along, as I can't imagine I was the only one trying to find DVD blanks that work at the higher speed. If anyone can confirm other brands, please tack them on.
