This depends on how you plan to use the system and where your personal data is going to reside.

A full install of OSX (with everyhting that you can install) can take up to 15Gb....

Why would you want to maximise windows space when OSX is what makes a mac what it truely is?

With everything stripped down I think it's only a couple of gig for the OS. I don't get why you would buy a mac and not use osx? Why not just buy a PC laptop?

Irony is lost on the poster two replies up.

Unless said otherwise, I see trolling rather that irony.

We aren't pissed off, we're just confused as to why you'd waste perfectly good Mac hardware to run only Windows.

he is going to use mac osx, that is why he is asking how much space to leave, but primarily wants to use windows, once the power macs come out with intel cpu's, and they run windows and windows apps as well as what I have heard.. I will sell my high end pc to get one as well, nice to have the option to run either os.

and as far as my sig, yeah, I have no idea how to use a mac, I have not owned one for 15+ years now.. and I have not received the 20" imac yet, its on its way though.

I don't know, I think the line where he says:

nothing about macintosh appeals to me other than the hardware

makes it pretty clear he is not planning on using OSX at all...

yeah, probably not going to OSX at all... are there cons to just formatting the whole hard drive to be PC?

as i think baggss was alluding to, once you use windows to install boot camp. you can format again and delete the mac partition, making your entire hd formatted for windows. actually, now that i think about it, you might be able to format the entire hd when you first install windows. just delete the mac partition and install windows on the c: drive.

there are a few cons. as it stands now, there aren't drivers for the ir port or the isight camera, so neither will work in windows. also, the headphone port won't mute the speakers, so you basically can't use headphones. i don't know if apple will release more drivers to the public later or if you will have to purchase the next release of osx to get them though.
