Hi Patrick

It shuts off if I try that and when I say off I mean instantly

The battery level test thing on the side don’t even light up as well

Thanks for all the help

As I’m dreading it’s something more serious as apple said the battery was dead but wanted a silly amount to change it

Thanks

Then the battery is completely dead (unusual for even a discharged new replacement battery) or is not connected, for whatever the reason. Bad connector, cable, whatever…

But I thought you said you got a new replacement battery, in fact two of them, I thought you would be trying to use.

But maybe I'm not understanding the Welsh/English translation. :Smirk:

With all that you've tried, I think you're going to need to have an Apple Store Genius Bar diagnose the issue, if you have one nearby.

Someone mentioned the charging circuits on the logic board, or it could be a bent connector pin in the battery connection port?

Just double check the battery connection that it is seated firmly in place.

As Bob says, contact Apple and BTW: I believe the voltage of a fully charged battery would be:
10.95V/65.7Wh

so its been with apple all morning,

they have called me up and have deemed that the logic board is the fault (don't know how mind)

they are saying the battery has been tested and is ok and is on 10 cycles ???

any ideas what could have caused it guys ?

as its working perfectly and im not noticing any performance issues at all.

thanks for all the help so far

p.s one more thing I removed the dead battery with a plastic spudger so I doubt that caused any issues

When Apple says it's the logic board, they're probably referring to the DC input board that's part of the charging circuitry. Apple will not replace that board alone but replaces the entire logic board which that board is a part of. Overkill, but that's what Apple does.

hi guys just an update for you.

I got the MacBook back this morning and then picked up a smashed screen MacBook Pro and I mean it was in an awful condition for £50 same here same cpu same everything

I replaced the dc board thinking it would solve it still green light and no charge.

replaced the whole logic board and its now charging and battery cycle is on 11

ive noticed tho if I connect the little battery indicator cable tho the charging light goes green and don't show the battery.

but if I remove it and reboot the MacBook the battery is there and charging so Id highly say that's faulty as well somehow ????

anyway I saved the high expense apple wanted to charge by getting a smashed MacBook Pro on the cheap

and replaced the logic board.

so at the moment I'm just after some advice on the battery indicator

thanks

I've been told that often the kaput boards and components are sent back by any Authorized Apple Service Center to Apple who sends them whatever their "refurbishing center" happens to be, who then might do the repairs or any re-soldering etc.

That way they can get more consistent results and the repaired parts get fully tested.

If they don't pass, all components are stripped and re-cycled apparently, that Apple is quite intent on doing.

well the logic board that I had in there is working perfectly if you want to run the MacBook Pro off the mains.

so my cheap repair was a good option

apple quoted a silly amount for an older machine so I didn't bother going down there route

the only issue I have now is the battery indicator on the side of the MacBook no longer works and causes the MacBook not to charge

Actually I'm quite confused on the actual state of things when I read your last posts, #28 and #30 as to whether it's working properly or not.

It seems to me it's only partially fixed and working even if it was a cheap fix.

… snip …

Anyway, not to worry if you're happy with your "fix".

right let me clear this up

the replacement logic board I had solved the charging problem and its now running on the battery.

on the side of the MacBook Pro mid 2012 they have a charge indicator and that's not working and if I reconnect its ribbon cable to the logic board it won't charge anything ?

does that help ?

Yup, and thanks.

It doesn't seem to be a big deal not having the charge lights on the side especially when you can have the % displayed in your menubar.

I'd say you made that point clear in your previous post.

Maybe google your battery indicator light and its cable and charge problem and you'll be 100% fixed, and for a reasonable (cheap!!) fix.

PS: It might just be something associated with the SMC when the indicator light cable is connected, and may just a SMC Reset might fix it.

Maybe… :Smirk:

hi there

thanks again

I tried an SMC reset that goes ok

but the symptoms stay the same when the connector is connected for the batter level on the side,

so ive ordered a replacement from eBay and will try that.

thanks
