• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

Not many options are open to you. Without the original disks and serial number you can't install FCP 7. You may be able to find a legal copy of FCP 7 on eBay, one that has an unused serial number and can be installed. Other than that, I'm not sure what you can do to get your project done.

What version of FCP is your friend's Mac running? I'm assuming you made the project with FCP 7 and his mac is running an older version of it? If his Mac is running FCP 7 and you used FCP X to edit it then you should be able to go onto the App store with your Apple ID and redownload it to the new computer.

In that case if you can't find your disks, and don't have a backup of your computer that you can restore from, your best bet is to see if you can find a copy of FCP 7 on ebay I looked on there to see if any were available, and it looks like you have a few options that are currently listed.
