Considering a recent MS Skype auto-update completely messed up my Skype account that I've finally got back into seemingly working order and contacts back, I was wondering if there was a way to disable the auto-update that's no longer available in the recent versions.
I found this at their "support" page:
That of course sent me looking and I came up with this:
Microsoft Skype (definitely) and Teams (maybe) – Disabling automatic updates
https://soundmacguy.wordpress.com/2...-and-teams-maybe-disabling-automatic-updates/
But it contains some code and suggestions I need some advice with.
And a bit more code stuff and info.
My question is, would this be safe enough to do or what about just removing the single source of any Squirrel software that sitting here:
/Applications/Skype.app/Contents/Frameworks/Squirrel.framework
See here for image as well:

Thanks for any help or suggestions.
PS: I'd just do any needed Skype updates manually.
And BTW: How can a company mess and screw up an application that used to work so well and nicely. I've lost track of how many hours I wasted getting my Skype

how do we stop auto updats with new version
It's currently not possible to disable the automatic updates in the new Skype on Desktop, Mac and Linux.

It isn’t possible to disable this via managed preferences or a configuration profile as the Squirrel framework doesn’t provide a preference domain or preference for it. However, it turns out that it does have an environment variable we can set. Bear in mind that setting this knocks out automatic updates for all apps that use Squirrel (except those that Nerf that **** so hard).
All you need to do is run this command, as the current logged in user:
/bin/launchctl setenv DISABLE_UPDATE_CHECK 1
And a bit more code stuff and info.
