I'm using a panda n600 long range wife adapter, with a pc windows or linux, I cannot pick up enough signal. Macbook pro lat3 2008, Mavericks, can pick up enough signal to stream!

1. So, I want to buy a mac mini 2009, Os El cap--will i still get the same signal strength??

2. Drivers, Mac OS, or airport card: which is responsible for better wifi than PC, either linux or windows??

Thanks, chaz

First, don't buy a machine that is going to be nearly 10 years old shortly. You are much better off saving money and purchasing a much newer machine. The location of the machines matter, the amount of interference between the access point and WiFi adapter matter. Look at the signal strength (in dB) on each of the machines which will tell you what it is seeing.

Dude, my macbook, dell laptop (windows 10 ubuntu 16), and my optiplex desktop (ubuntu 16) are all located in the same location. So, everything you say is not relevant. And the only drag for my purposes of the older mac mini (easy to open up and work on) is when browsers quit supporting El Cap...I'm 71 and may not be around long enough for that to occur.

The issue could be interference with one or more of the devices. At the frequencies of WiFi (2.4 and 5.0 Ghz) the wavelength is very short (12 and 6 cm, approximately). So with such a short wavelength, reflections and interference can make dead spots in a given area. Some of the spots can be really small, on the order of inches, so two devices on the same desk may have one in a strong spot and one in a dead spot. So basically everything Raz0rEdge said DOES matter. (And I'm older than you, dude, so show some respect here.)

all 3 of my computers sit in exactly same spot on my desk (with no other computers or other stuff on) when I try get online via the panda wifi adapter. Besides my wifi adapter is sitting outside with a satellite dish focusing the signal to the 2 antennas on the adapter.
Regarding the previous suggestion that I buy a newer computer: I need to find out what the difference is with either the OS, airport cards, drivers, etc prior to shelling out money for another computer. And before someone suggest that I buy a better long range antenna or set up a repeater, I have researched that already.
