What kind of files are you trying to delete? The system will not allow any files that are needed by macOS to be deleted even if you try from terminal with a password.

Why are you trying to empty Trash from Terminal?

If you are trying to "Secure" Empty Trash see; discussions.apple.com/thread/8276070 (dead link removed)
The only other way to do this today is to use a third party app like MacFly Pro or CleanMyMac 3 which has a Shredder function. System junk is otherwise removed when the device is restarted.

You won't be able to do much of anything until you get a proper macOS installed and working and complete with an admin user.

I'm having the same problem as Patrick. I'm not sure whether the OP is having difficulties with getting past the Password (PW) at installation of the OS or whether it's simply a Trash problem??

In Terminal, when you enter the password, nothing happens, the cursor just blinks in place. Just go slowly and make sure you enter the correct password, then hit return.
