I think it is the Eject symbol ol, for when there is a disc, in the optical drive. I don't remember, because I don't have it in my menu bar.

If I'm reading this chart correctly, that is the Eject symbol.

I think the Eject symbol is more like a triangle with an underscore, the OP's shot is more like an arrow, but why is it showing in the menu bar???

Does a mouse-over or click on it divulge anything??

How about a Caps Lock identifier for a non Apple keyboard like Logitech?

No need for that Slydude.

BTW: why do most of Apple's current keyboards no have the Caps Lock icon, (or the Shift icon for that matter) on the actual keys when they did some years ago.

Yet they are also missing from our older Apple (2007 or 2011??? era maybe) extended keyboards. But were noticed a few years ago as existing:

Strange lack of consistency eh???

Thanks guys. Strange because I have my caps lock disabled in preferences/keyboard/keyboard/modifier keys...(set to "No Action")
If I press the caps lock key it puts the icon in menu bar but does not actually allow me to type any upper case characters. So I can toggle that icon on and off with a disabled caps lock key.
And yes - I do want it disabled - it works exactly the way I want.

There should be a way to disable, "show icon in menubar, in one of the System Preferences.

What Mac Model and keyboard and OS X version are you using.

And are you using any Caps Lock utility like CapSee or similar?

And meantime have a look and read here an see if it doesn't help:

I think icons on the Menu Bar can be dragged off by holding the Command key and click and hold with the mouse, drag it into an empty desktop and it should disappear. This might depend on the OS version.

I tried that. The icons do not drag off.

Yup the OS X version matters and I believe only the latest versions finally allowed moving third party icons as Apple usually already allowed the action, but only with some of their own apps.

See this for more:

EDIT:
Maybe I missed it, but I still haven't seen any details at to what Kay is using for their Mac. keyboard or OS X version. It can and does make a difference but it's not up to us to keep guessing or suggesting solutions for all various situations. :Smirk:

Apologies Kay, I just tried it on my MBP (High Sierra) and that action only allows me to reposition some of the icons, not remove them. Other 1st party app icons can be removed that way such as Siri but not eg Dropbox. I did not see if you were using a non apple keyboard because it could be a built in feature of that.

Personally I have never had a mystery icon on my tool bar that I couldn't remove or disable but i do have way too many. I know this is not a solution but I recommend Bartender $15.00 if your toolbar is getting overcrowded. This app allows you to hide or move toolbar icons to a second tool bar allowing you to just display your most used icons all the time. This is very useful if you find that some menus are starting to cover some of your icons.

Lets try to end this thread.
I only wondered what the icon was.
It don't bother me. I can remove it by tapping the caps lock key even tho I have caps lock disabled.
Thanks for your insight.
As stated before my configuration is an iMac pro with a logitech bluetooth keyboard but I am sure it also did this with my stock apple keyboard before I sold it on ebay.
