Problem with Thunderbolt

I recently purchased an external SSD by Transcend that can connect via thunderbolt 2 or USB 3.0. The USB connection works well enough but for some reason I keep losing contact with my thunderbolt connection (It won't work at all on my friend's macbook). Is my SSD a factory defect? All my cables and ports look normal to me though. Or is thunderbolt particularly sensitive to corrosion from humidity because I live near the sea? Has anyone had any similar issues with Thunderbolt?

You could not live closer to the sea than myself and never experienced problems with TB, or USB any version and boy humidity here is regularly over 90%..

Yep, same here in Bali, humidity 55% temp 32 C at the moment.
I have a couple of Transcend external drives and I have been very impressed with their quality and reliability, one is over 8 years old but USB only.
