I am a windows user who has previously upgraded my SSD but now am working on an unfamiliar iMac that belongs to my wife so want to get my ducks in a row….

I already have the IFIXIT Tool Repair Kit.

My plan is as follows:
Clone HD to SSD using Samsung Data Migration and the above the external enclosure.
Then use the following instructions for opening Imac.

Concern: Read TRIM can be an issue but unclear if I have to change any setttings and how to do it.
Concern: Read Fan running continuously is an issue because heat sensor or ???

Question: Do I need a bracket or spacer to hold the SSD in place?

Is there anything else that I am missing?

I wouldn't use the Samsung software to clone the drive. We usually recommend either Carbon Copy Cloner, https://bombich.com, or SuperDuper!, https://shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html. Both offer free trials.

The 2013 iMac comes with a glued LCD screen, and is mighty difficult to remove and replace. A dear friend is a major Mac Reseller in Sydney and does not allow his techies to crack a 2012 and later iMac. After cracking five LCD screens, at $500 a pop, he trucks them across town to Apple HQ for the work to be done. You will not need a bracket as that model 21.5" comes with either a 1TB 5400rpm notebook type drive, a Fusion drive or an SSD. The good news is you do not need the sensor kit with the 21.5", only the 27" model of that vintage.
