Outlook 2016 for Mac no longer deletes trash on closing.

I have been using Outlook 2016 (part of Office 365) for about three years. When first installed the Trash folder was not emptied on closure but fairly recently after an update it starting deleting the Trash like it always has on a PC.

Today I have noticed that yesterdays trash is still there.

Does anybody know if this is intentional or do I have a problem with my installation?

Just found out that there has been a fault on my email providers server, which has no been fixed and Outlook works as it should.
