Contacts App Acting Strange

I'm running a MacBook Pro with the latest update.

For the last month or so, every time I entered a new entry into my Contacts, as soon as I hit "Enter" after entering the last name, it would disappear, then a minute or so later, would be in the list of contacts on the left. I have to click on it in the left field to enter the rest of the data.

Any idea what can be causing this and how I can get it back to its "normal" operating state? It's very frustrating... I go to insert a new contact and wind up waiting for it to show up in the list, then have to click on the list to be able to continue entering information.

Don't hit "return" but the tab key to move to the next block. Hit return when you are all done editing.
