There seem to be several commercially available 'Calendar-type' programs on the market.

Anyone know if any of them allow the importing of Mac OS Calendar data? It would be nice to be able to import all my old data (which I often use as reference) into the new program.

I use Fantastical 2 as my calendar across a variety of online services like iCloud, Exchange and Gmail and it all works fine. This app also can deal with local calendars so it will show you all of your old data. This app is available to try for free for a couple of weeks, so try it out before you buy. Once installed, click to Preferences->Calendars and under Local Calendar it should show you what you already have through Calendar.app, select it and you should see your events.
