Out of the blue, all my Calendar data vanished.

Tried going to back-up (SuperDuper, weekly), but that too was blank - maybe when I backed up yesterday, the Calendar was already gone bad.

Last time I'd archived was December, so tried restoring from that. Still no good - all blank.

If my Calendar program has gone bad, can I just download a new one, or do I have to download El Capitan all over again?

Any ideas welcomed!

Allen (MacMini, SSD, El Capitan).

Hi Allen

One question for you, pivotal to a possible solution: do you use iCloud to sync between devices or even as a simple backup?

Hello Ian.

No, not an iCloud user, although I am signed in to it (why?)

Why?

Because if you are/were using iCloud and Calendar was activated, then we could recover your data fairly easily:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT205018. (read it all because some bits refer to iOS devices and then Macs)

As regards SuperDuper! (SD!), I use this too. How were you restoring the Calendar app and its events from that?

As far as I know, you cannot get Apple's Calendar as a separate download; but re-downloading El Capitan, should it come to that, is fairly straightforward.

Reboot holding down Command + R and this takes you into Recovery where the first option is to download the OS currently on your Mac - which for you would be El Capitan -

See here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

Do you have another Apple device? Do the Calendars show up on the other devices? Or, if you sign in to iCloud.com, do you see your Calendars there?

Do you have the Calendar sidebar set to display? Are you seeing the different optional Calendars for "On this Mac" and "iCloud"? As well as the assorted Calendars you have set up?

When approximately was the last time it was working??

Maybe some of these web search hits might help:

But just in case it got moved somewhere somehow I'd try using Find Any File.app for:
name contains or equals: Calendars AND Is a folder.

Normally it would be located in:
Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars folder.

Find Any File (FAF) download:

Thank you all so much for your generous and helpful suggestions.

As it happens, Ian's 'iCloud' prompt sent me to iCloud preferences, where, for no good reason (blame it on old age), I had dechecked the Calendar box.

Rechecked it, back came data.

Phew.

Is there a decent link to a place I can read up about iCloud/Macmini operations? As I said earlier, I didn't think I used it, but I am signed in to it - thought it was mandatory! And declicking that Calendar box apparently screwed up everything.

Glad I came here and asked.

Allen.

Can anyone tell me why all my past diaried items disappear from my iPhone and iPad within a few weeks but stay on the Mac? Syncing with iCloud but not using it as back-up.

Maybe this or similar???:

You may accidentally found that your calendar events disappeared from your iPhone after upgrading to a new iOS operating system, doing a factory setting, or restoring from iCloud or iTunes backup.
