Hey All,
My MacBook Air Mid 2011 just suddenly began to have some battery issues and dies suddenly. It look forever to charge back up, but didn't matter because if it is unplugged for even a minute it turns off.

Here is the information...any ideas? I don't want to have to buy a new one even though I was thinking about it, just wanted to wait a few months, was going to get an iMac and keep this for travels, now thinking maybe macbook pro with monitor --again I would like to figure out what is wrong without having to put more money in this computer

What are people's thoughts?

A battery charge of 100% really is no indication of battery health. As Harry pointed out...the charge cycles on your battery are pretty high...this combined with the fact that this battery is 7 years old (2011) are leading to the issues. Time for a new battery.

You might also get coconutBattery and see what it is reporting about your battery health. That's a pretty old battery and may well be failing.

@ Pchorner - there were 4 mid-2011 MB Air models according to the EveryMac website and two different batteries were offered, i.e. 35 & 50 Wh which impacts on the mAh, so not sure what the mAh 'design capacity' might have been originally in your laptop - below is a Coconut Battery assessment of my MBAir (early 2015) - battery health is 100% w/ only 13 cycles (I keep this laptop plugged to AC most of the time).

Now making an assumption that your battery's original 'design capacity' was 7200 mAh, then the 4747 mAh being reported calculates to about a 65% battery health w/ your 900+ cycles; of course, if your battery had few initial mAhs, they your battery health would be higher. As others have suggested you likely need a new battery - check the appropriate iFixit Guide if you want a DIY task? Dave :)

ADDENDUM: Another app on my laptops is Battery Health which provides similar information!
