Beer and MacBook don't mix

Greetings,

New user here.

I was standing over my MacBook holding a pint of beer, the bottom of the glass bizarrely fell out and a whole pint soaked my laptop. I'm pretty sure it's destroyed after days of attempting to dry it out.

Not a complete disaster as most of my stuff is in the cloud but there's a small amount of stuff I'd like to retrieve if possible.

If the hard drive is still ok, is there some sort of external device or caddy I can connect it to or will I need to try and install it into another laptop?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Damon.

What MacBook? Depending on what MB you have, there may be enclosures. However, more recent Macs have the chips for the SSD soldered in, and therefore cannot be removed.

Hello Damon. You're in luck...2012 MacBook Air's do have a removable "blade" SSD...and there is an enclosure available to place it in after removal to access the files:

Hopefully it wasn't damaged in the liquid spill. Good luck,

Nick, you type faster than I do. I started at ifixit.com first, then went to OWC. You picked the better path!

BTW, I know this was purchased in 2014 so would this require a different version of the OWC Envoy?

Check with OWC when they open. They have a chat line from the website.

Doesn't matter. A 2012 MacBook Air is still a 2012 MacBook Air regardless of what year the purchase was actually made.

Kind of like purchasing a 1963 Chevrolet Corvette. If it was purchased in 1967...it's still a 1963 Corvette. And parts that fit a 1963 Corvette (and not a 1967 Corvette) need to be used.:)

p.s. But as Jake expertly mentioned...if you have any doubts...speak with OWC. We all want to purchase & order the correct stuff the first time.:)
