@ferrarr yep.

If that's the case...then you better sell your "Late 2009" iMac on eBay ASAP...since this would be the ONLY "Late 2009" 21.5" iMac in the world with a Thunderbolt port!!!!;) Everyone else's "Late 2009" iMac has a mini-displayport for video out capabilities.:)

If this iMac does have a Thunderbolt port...then it's NOT a "Late 2009" model.

I just read your beachball article...

Thanks

I see that chrome uses 200+mb per tab and I have at least 20 tabs open

I dont understand when before I leave work I send the imac to the login screen then come in to work in the morning it takes 15 mins to get to force quit chrome.

The memory pressure in activity monitor is at red/yellow then once I force quit chrome the imac works fine again. Or just reboot....

Guess this thing is a dinosaur?

MiniDisplay Port and Thunderbolt Port are the same, except the Thunderbolt Port has a lightning bolt icon above it.

Not exactly...as I'm sure you know.:) MiniDisplayport & Thunderbolt "work the same" when it comes to attaching an external display...but a Thunderbolt port is capable of much more then just video out.

And in this situation Thunderbolt did not exist in 2009...which is why OP's Late 2009 iMac does not have a Thunderbolt port...but does have a minidisplayport.:) Thunderbolt as I mentioned above...did not show up until 2011.

True, I should have specified, "look the same, but, don't work the same". Thanks.

What are your thoughts on this?

as opposed to spending 1400 on a NEW one!

Although this would seem like an ok deal (and it may be for what it is)...the big drawback to me is the 8gig of RAM. BELIEVE ME...if you plan on keeping this computer for a few years...you're going to want more RAM in the future...and RAM in this is NOT upgradeable. Make sure you get something with 16gig of RAM.:)

I guess RAM isnt upgradeable anymore in these macs?

RAM is not upgradeable in the 21.5" models. RAM is still user upgradeable with the 27" models.

So

My bro in law gave me his 2011 27" imac

https://support.apple.com/kb/SP689?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

its the 3.1 with 8gb ram and 1TB HDD

My thoughts its a bandaid since its old?

I mean I know it will run the latest osx but not take advantage of all its features IE usb 3/usb C/ hand off and more.

Wonder if its worth using and saving the 1000 to get the 2017 21" imac 4k refurbished?

I also got this from my GF dad..

https://support.apple.com/kb/SP714?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

1.6 with 128gb ssd drive. Has usb 3 and 2 thunderbolt ports...
