ipad video not playing

not sure if this is OS issue or what!
I have updated to latest os11 on both iPad air and phone 5s....sadly did not backup as one should. too late now.

recently returned from vacation and had lots of pics and a couple of videos.
was sharing my files with a friend and i could not get the videos to play on iPad air but would on iPhone 5s.

i checked settings to see if there was a difference between iPhone and iPad but could not easily see any differences.
what could be the issue?

On which device did you record the videos? Normally, iOS videos are just regular QuickTime (QT) MOV videos, so they should play across all Apple OS' without any problem..

Also, how did you transfer them to your iPad?

did a reset and all is well. not sure what the issue was.
