This is a bit annoying. I have a great little pair of Garmin 'in ear' ear phones which have served me well over two previous iPhones but now when I plug them in I get the above message. Dismissing it does no good but what does work is putting the phone on Airplane mode, unplugging and replugging the earphones. So this is a message and function generated by Apple. The specs are ok so why is Apple stopping me from using a third party device. Is there any solution to this? Or must I buy an overpriced Apple approved device? PS I did originally buy these from an Apple store.

You got it! Same happens with most 3rd party charging cables.

I get this message occasionally with two after market cables, I find, wiggling them around, while still pugged in helps get them working.

Yes, well I'm using the provided lightening bolt adaptor as the earphones are 3.5mm.

Curious, I'm using a set of Bose exercise earbuds with that adapter and I've never seen the message. I wonder how (and why) the system thinks a set of earbuds are not "supported?" Any chance the iPhone is somehow thinking they are BT and not directly connected? Do you use BT to connect to any audio devices?
