I have just bought an iPhone SE but my current SIMcard is for an iPhone 4s. My provider is sending me a new SIMcard. Meanwhile is it possible to use the new iPhone without a SIMcard? I've tried cutting down a redundant SIMcard but the gold bit is bigger than the slot it has to fit.

You can use it purely on WiFi until the SIM arrives. You, obviously, won't be able to make or receive phone calls or do any cellular data..

Bearing in mind that it has been reset I have done the following:

Backed up my iPhone 4s to my iMac
Connected the SE to my iMac
I get a message telling me to insert a SIM card

What should I do next?

Quick Google searches seem to indicate that it might be possible to use the phone without activation only on WiFi..but I don't have any practical experience with this..

However since you are waiting for the SIM card to show up, you should just wait for it to arrive and activate it and use the phone then..

You can not make or receive phone calls without a valid SIM card inserted. The phone will state: "No Service". Yes you can use it on WiFi or to play your favorite music but then you do not need an expensive smart phone for that. ;D

I'm pretty certain that it's possible to cut down a regular (or micro) SIM card to nano size?
It ends up being all of the 'gold bit', but it should work in your SE.
(Your new card is probably here, by now, anyway.)

Hope you enjoy the phone. I'm liking my SE a lot, it does all the good stuff, without being the size of an aircraft carrier.

Best, CB
