The upper photo shows my new set-up; a mini replacing the (disconnected) Mac Book Pro. The issue this morning has been failure to connect to my wi-fi with this configuration.

When I removed the AUKEY multiplex USB2 connector, normal service resumed. How strange ! Can anyone explain this ?

Sorry.

when I viewed this thread this morning, I only saw the images, no font or type was present. Viewed it using my iPad Pro iOS 10.3.3, Safari browser app.

The pictures are nice, but not very useful. Is the system as you have it in your profile? What Wifi router? What happens if you put the device you removed back in now? Has anything changed on the router or your ISP?

Which channel scanner for my new Mac mini ?

Apple Help advise the wi-fi connection problem with my new mini may be due to 'network congestion', so have advised I change the channel on my (Virgin Media) router.

I just found the built-in scanner for Sierra and got 1, 2 (2.4GHz) and 36, 40 (5GHz). What do I do with these numbers ?

The mini is only one of three devices at home which uses the wi-fi; other two are my iPhone, and wife's MacBook Pro and DO connect OK, as does sons MacBook. This would suggest it was a problem with the mini. But the mini DOES connect OK to a personal hotspot via the phone, which they say proves the mini is OK.

So I'm also confused about the issue still, as well as which software to scan for local channels which might be causing any congestion.

What I don't understand is why its the mini and not the other 2 devices, which has the problem.

You have not answered the mist important question. Does everything work if you return to using the mbp as per your old configuration?

To change the channel, you need to go into your (Virgin) router internal settings, and change the broadcast channel. You may need to contact Virgin, to find out how to do that, or you can do an internet search for the information for your specific model router.

I'd definitely move the router from that metal sandwich. Get it up higher and more central somewhere away from metal.

The solution to this was an up to date smarter router from Virgin; one which doesn't need manual channel changing but seeks the best available and uses that. At least thats my understanding. But I'm puzzled why the new mini wouldn't connect with the older router.
