Can any members from the U.K. recommend a reliable MacBook buyer and seller? I am considering trading up from a MBP 13 to a MBP Retina 15. Thank you.

Not from the UK but here in Mac-Forums our first recommendation is to take a look at what Apple has in their on line refurbished store. Items sold there are like new and come with Apple's standard one year warranty. Also, Apple Care can be added. The savings may vary somewhat but generally are 15% to 20% off the original price. Just a suggestion. :)

I've heard of a couple good places in the UK to purchase a new Apple computer (other than Apple). But I'm thinking finding a good used dealer in the UK is like anywhere else in the world. Used computer dealers everywhere buy-low and sell-high. What I mean by "sell-high" is...they sell thier used computers for way more than market value.

From a cost perspective for a used computer...your best bet is probably eBay. Otherwise definitely explore what chscag mentioned...Apple's refurbished area.:)

I've been lucky using Craigslist too. Both buying and selling computers and parts.

Most of the used computers I've purchased over the last 10+ have come from Craig's List as well Bob. But I don't think Craig's List is quite as well developed (or caught on) in the UK.

For example if I look up "Computers for Sale by Owner" in my area I get 1729 total listings. If I do the same thing for:

- London = 55
- Liverpool = 2
- Sheffield = 0
- Leeds = 6
- Manchester = 4

Of course Apple computers are a sub-set of each search (thus fewer still). Definitely some for sale in the UK on Craig's List...just not as many. If I lived in the UK...I certainly would check Craig's List if I was looking for a used computer.:)

Thanks for the helpful suggestions. Apple Store is expensive and not much difference from the new price. EBay has let me down in the past; problem is the management don't regulate sellers well, or provide buyer-resolution services like the brilliant Amazon. Amazon usually has similar goods, sold with their unrivalled consumer protection. Craig's List is little known in the UK ... a few MacBooks but far from my town. So, as with used cars, one returns to dealers for convenience. Just wondered if members here could recommend a good one. There are High Street shops like CEX and Cash Converters which buy and sell used goods locally but most used-Mac dealers use the mail and operate from industrial sites.
